1. New Meersein Single "Faded Eyes"
As you may know, I recently released two cover songs, and it has been a fantastic journey exploring these musical treasures. But now, I am excited to announce that it's time to create something entirely original again.
Yes, I am working on an exciting new single, and I can hardly wait to give you an exclusive glimpse into what's coming your way. As a token of my appreciation for your ongoing support and for being part of our newsletter community, I am pleased to offer you exclusive early access to this upcoming single. The release is scheduled for January, but I wanted to bring some pre-Christmas cheer before the holidays. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to the incredible, music-filled adventures awaiting us in the coming year! 2. Review - "Versengold - Lautes Gedenken"
Anniversary, loud memories, and plenty of music – that's "Lautes Gedenken" the latest album from the Bremen folk-rock sextet Versengold. In 20 years of band history, they have experienced highs and lows, and exactly that is reflected in the ten catchy songs.
The album starts with "Glimmer und Gloria," a pleasing opener that immediately gets the party started. But Versengold wouldn't be Versengold if they didn't also celebrate local patriotism, as seen in "Wir Feiern Den Norden." A touch of Santiano permeates the melodies. "Flaschengeist" introduces a folk and lively note – the necessary energy boost that the album needs. In "Tod Und Trommeln", thundering drums and violin sounds merge into a "Lied des Todes". "Sally O'Brien" takes us merrily into the Christmas season with Irish flair and a good dose of humor. The title track "Lautes Gedenken" is an emotional ballad that is sure to evoke a tear or two at concerts. "Labyrinth" showcases the band's versatility as a rock number and a motivating track. "Im Bier Sind Dinge Drin" humorously addresses conspiracy theories and invites loud sing-alongs. "Dunerweer," as an instrumental, provides danceable rhythms and brief pauses. "Zum Horizont" is a longing duet between Malte Hoyer and Annie Hurdy Gurdy. "Sorry Marie" surprises with harmonized vocals reminiscent of Die Ärzte, humorously poking fun at the sentiments of Generation Z. "Mal Der Hund, Mal Der Baum" and "Eintagsfliege" conclude the album with good vibes, infused with light-hearted acoustic sounds. In "Lautes Gedenken," one might search in vain for musical and lyrical sophistication, but for 45 minutes of fun, shutting off the brain, and celebrating 20 years of Versengold, you definitely can't go wrong with this record. The Northeners stay true to themselves and take us on an entertaining sonic journey through their eventful history. Cheers!" 3. Interview "Laut Fragen"
M (Maren Rahmann), D (Didi Disko)
Question 1: Tell our readers a bit about who you are. M: I'm Maren, and I'm primarily responsible for vocals and performance. D: I handle the electronics, guitar, and provide the second voice. M: We came together in Vienna in 2016 and have been on the road as Laut Fragen ever since. Question 2: I´ve delved into your music a lot, and I find it challenging to categorize you into a specific genre. I personally appreciate this versability, but our readers who not be familiar with you yet, can you help them? D: We call ourselves electro-postpunk because we know that many people are based on these categories. M: For us personally, these terms are completely irrelevant. You're limited all your life anyway, but especially in music you have the opportunity to try things out and live them out. D: We want to break new ground with every song. And when we say “postpunk,” we don’t mean a formulated style of music with rules and laws that you have to abide by. We are referring to a time after the punk explosion, when a lot of experimentation was possible and different styles were invented, mixed and developed. It all still had a touch of punk attitude, but the bands sounded very different. Based on this basic attitude, we want to develop our very own style, fully aware that we live in 2023 and not in the early 1980s. Question 3: In your songwriting you deal with topics such as self-optimization, sexism and the climate catastrophe. Why are these topics so important to you? M: In our songs we take up topics that concern us, that upset us, that make us angry, where we want to take a stand, but also topics where we doubt and look at ourselves critically. D: Simply things that we want to say something about, even if it is ambivalent and we don't really know what to do next... M: ...so have fewer answers than questions. Question 4: "Age of Angst" can be viewed as a kind of musical commentary on current times and society. Do you want to raise your finger and make listeners think, or does your music serve more as your own processing? D: On our last album “Facets of Resistance” we set historical texts from the anti-fascist resistance to music. This time we wanted to do something completely different: exclusively our own texts and a full focus on the present. And to do this we allowed ourselves to be influenced by our surroundings and our own experiences. We're trying to avoid pointing fingers. M: Rather, we want to create space for ambiguity and simply leave some things open. D: Our lyrics are also full of self-irony. When we make fun of self-promotion on social media in a song like "Supermenschensonderangebot", then we are also grabbing our own noses. We do it exactly the same way. In this sense, the texts are processing and reflection. If they also stimulate other people to think: great! Question 5: What are you planning for the future? Are there concerts coming up or even a tour for the silver disc? M: We love playing live! The energy that arises together with the audience is different and unique every time. And we want to use every opportunity to do so. Definitely also in Germany. We are currently organizing. If anyone would like to invite us, please let us know. D: We will continue to write new songs, we won't run out of topics... M: ...and musically there is still a lot to discover! COMPETITION!
